(27th June, 2013) - A vaccination exercise targeting 50,000 head of cattle has been launched in Lakes State.
The Vaccinators are now moving to cattle camps in all the counties, vaccinating cattle against anthrax and black quarter diseases which have been reported in Awerial and Cueibet Counties.
The State Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Laat Mathou, told Radio Miraya on Thursday that the exercise will go on for next three weeks.
He also said the vaccinators have enlightened the communities about the dangers of cattle raiding and the need for peace.
“We are vaccinating, meanwhile we concurrently do the work of conflict mitigation among our youth, such that we reach out to many of the cattle and preach peace,” he said.
“Once their livestock are vaccinated, we are sure of reducing mortality rate and this is the purpose of our vaccination. “
