· This Emergency Appeal was initially launched on 16 May 2013 for CHF 3,711,427 to assist 150,000 beneficiaries (25,000 families) for eight months.
· This operational update n°1 provides an update of the donor response to the appeal to date and also seeks to request donors to support the appeal further.
Summary:
Through this appeal, the IFRC aims to support the SRCS Branches and National Disaster Response Teams (BDRTs and NDRTs) to respond to acute humanitarian needs of disasters through provision of rapid and effective lifesaving assistance to an estimated 150,000 beneficiaries, with particular focus on internally displaced people across eleven disasters prone states of Sudan (the five states of Darfur, Blue Nile, South Kordofan, North Kordofan, White Nile, Sennar and Khartoum states). The appeal also aims to consolidate the capacities of the National Societies and its branches and promote humanitarian diplomacy in building peace and promotion of the Red Cross Red Crescent Fundamental Principles.
The appeal has so far received support from the Japanese Red Cross Society and the Red Cross of Monaco. In addition,USAID has made a soft pledge towards the appeal, while Swiss Red Cross has contributed bilaterally to support related activities in Sennar State. Other partners are encouraged to support this appeal in order to enable the Sudan Red Crescent provide assistance to the affected beneficiaries.
