Relief organizations assessed that 27,000 people in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Unity, Upper Nile, Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal states need assistance following flooding since the beginning of the rainy season in June. Logistical constraints have prevented partners from accessing other flooded areas and assessing needs, meaning that the total number of people in need could be significantly higher. In all the states where floods have happened so far, heavy rains have caused damage to houses, crops and basic infrastructure. Assessment findings have shown that the most urgent needs are for household items, clean water, emergency drugs and, in some cases, short-term food assistance to get families through the flood season. Reports from other areas, including Akobo in Jonglei State, note that some flood-affected communities do not require assistance.
