(November 21, 2013) - A new policy aimed at increasing the number of women working as teachers by 2018 has been introduced in Juba.
The South Sudan Female Teacher’s affirmative action policy hopes to increase the number of women trained and working as teachers in government schools around the country.
The policy for 2014 to 2018 also aims to increase the number of women elevated to school management positions. South Sudan teacher Education Program Gender and Education Advisor Asha Arabi says she hopes the policy will encourage women to stay in the profession longer
Arabi says the policy will also protect female teachers from physical, sexual and psychological violence,
