The government has confirmed that the first food and humanitarian assistance will be distributed today to thousands of people displaced to Lakes state by ongoing clashes in Bor.
Yesterday, Lakes state deputy speaker Nhial Enock told Radio Miraya a humanitarian crisis had developed in Awerial county, where more than 20-thousand people have been staying in the open for more than five days without access to food, clean water, shelter or medical assistance.
Jonglei state Director of the South Sudan Relief Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC) Gabriel Deng Ajak, has confirmed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and the Government of Kenya will today send food and nonfood items to the area.
He says there are more than 22,560 Internally Displaced People that are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
“So far the government has responded with some relief items that were donated by Kenyan Government," he says. "But still more needs are required and (the) sanitation situation is getting worse, so I am appealing to partners to quickly respond to this huge need of the population.”
The distribution is expected to contain maize flour, beans, oil and sorghum.
