(Jan. 22, 2014) Authorities in Eastern Equatoria State say they have received food and other commodities from neighboring counties to meet the demands of IDPs settled in Torit town.
The mayor of Torit town, Stephen Osfaldo says residents of Magwi county and other areas of Torit are supplying the main market with food and basic commodities. Osfaldo says authorities have stabilized the prices to prevent hikes.
“...no we have already made the prices controlled just recently when I issued an order so that the prices don’t go very high, people are very poor if the commodities are high nobody will be able to buy anything in the market so we made price controlled in the market .”
The mayor says Torit town has an estimated 5,000 IDPs, most of them from Juba.
