South Sudan: Ministry of health distributes medicines & food items to states affected by crisis

(Feb. 7, 2014) The National ministry of health says it is ensuring continuity of services in health facilities in the states affected by the crisis.

Speaking to Radio Miraya, the undersecretary in the ministry of health, Dr Makur Matur, says the ministry has distributed medicines and food items to hospitals in Jonglei, Upper Nile and Unity states.
Dr Makur says in Bor work has restarted in the hospital and that the ministry will continue to support the health personnel on ground. He added that they are working closely with the crisis management committee. “The health care professionals who were ready to go back at that time, we provided transport, to go back, we supported whatever possible for them to stay in terms of feeding and accommodation and the rest of the thing and we provided 4 tons of medicines and all other necessary logistics .So they are now in Bor they have started to do the business as people came back.”

The ministry of health says 7 tons of medicines have been transported to Bentiu on Thursday.
Last week Malakal hospital received 5 tons of medicines and food items.
