SITUATION OVERVIEW
The humanitarian response to people displaced by the recent conflict in South Sudan continues. Aid agencies have conducted about 20 inter-agency needs assessments, resulting in 159 response commitments since the crisis broke out eight weeks ago. The number of civilians sheltering in UN bases has dropped to 74,800, as many civilians left the bases in Bor and Malakal during the past week.
The crisis has brought new patterns of vulnerability in South Sudan. The map (right) shows vulnerability by county based on data since 15 December. The map is based on several indicators, including levels of displacement, conflict incidents, access constraints, presence of refugees and returnees, and propensity of flooding. people assisted Aid agencies launched the new South Sudan Crisis Response Plan on 4 February, urgently appealing for $1.27 billion to assist 3.2 million people suffering the humanitarian consequences of the crisis.
The funding required will be to meet the most urgent needs until June 2014, and help pre-position aid before the rains hit.
