(Feb. 10, 2014) Nine people have been killed and 3 others wounded in an attack in Mayom county of Unity State.
Acting army spokesperson, Brigadier General Malaak Ayuen Ajok says the civilians were in a convoy traveling to Bentiu, when they came under attack over the weekend.
Brigadier Malaak blames the attack on anti-government forces, further saying the attack was in violation of the cessation of hostilities agreement.
“In Benitu there still some clashes the rebels are still attacking our positions and attacking the civil population areas this place is between Thor-al-abiyat and Thomor this place was attacked on Saturday some vehicles and trucks were moving to Bentiu carrying some goods to the people in Bentiu the rebels attacked that convoy nine people were killed three people were wounded.
"They are laying some ambushes along that road which is connecting Bahar-al-gazel and Bentiu .“ He says
The Deputy spokesperson of the SPLM in the opposition, Yohanis Musa Pouk spoke to Radio Miraya earlier and denied accusations that their forces have violated the cessation of hostilities agreement.
"This is not true because when we signed the agreement, before even 24 hours the government attacked our positions in Bentiu and a place called Leer , Koch and Mathiang in Bor. Even yesterday they were attacking us. ”
Meanwhile, four people including two pastors have been killed in an ambush along the Juba-Bor road.
The victims were traveling in a convoy of five commercial vehicles when they were attacked by armed men between Gemeiza and Sudan Safari in Central Equatoria State. Acting army spokesperson, Malaak Ayuen Ajok says security will be stepped up along the route.
