South Sudan: Humanitarian situation state is worsening says deputy governor

(Mrach. 10, 2014) Authorities in Unity state say the humanitarian situation State is worsening.

Unity State Deputy Governor Col. Mabek Lang Mading, told Radio Miraya in an exclusive interview that most people have lost their livestock, food and houses in the conflict.

The deputy governor says humanitarian agencies have been able to access Rubkotna, Pariang, Mayom, Abiemnom counties.

Most Counties are not accessible due to land mines suspected to have been planted by warring parties in the recent crisis.

“……….southern part of the state are now still very difficult for NGOs to reach but we are working hard now to push the UN demining team to clear the roads so that the NGOs will intervene.”

Unity state Deputy Governor Mabek Lang Mading says Leer county is worst affected by the recent crisis.

“……the critical situation of leer county where most population have returned there is no food even in the market there is nothing because the market has been destroyed and the road even is not accessible.”

People have returned to Bentiu town in the thousands but life has become even more difficult. Humanitarian response is not enough. the deputy governor says people are simply surviving by the day."

The state government has asked UNMISS mines action to clear roads to counties as to allow humanitarian access.
