JUBA [ACTED News] - In South Sudan's capital, Juba, strong winds and heavy rains on Friday (7th March 2014) evening wrought havoc in both sites for internally displaced people, sheltering over 30,000 people displaced by the recent crisis. ACTED staff reported plastic shelters flattened to the ground and extensive areas of the camp immersed under water and thick mud.
ACTED and other humanitarian partners responded instantly to assess the damage, and devised and implemented risk mitigation plans. Shelter kits are prepared, family relocation plans are ongoing, construction of drainage channels, and raising the ground level and sandbag distribution is underway to reinforce remaining shelters.
