South Sudan: Cordaid manages to deliver medicines and salaries to Kodok, Fashoda, Upper Nile despite turmoil in South Sudan

SOUTH SUDAN- On Wednesday 12th March, three Cordaid employees succeeded in delivering medicines, equipment and tools to Fashoda County, Upper Nile Region.

The team, Andrew Ngugi, programme advisor Healthcare, Paul Ocheng, Healthcare fieldworker and John Kolff, head of Cordaid’s office in South Sudan, flew by charter to Kodok, the main town in Fashoda County, where they were met by a large and enthusiastic crowd at the airstrip.

The team paid a visit to the Fashoda Commissioner, where they expressed the continued support from Cordaid to Fashoda County through our existing health programme.

As well as distributing the necessary medicines the team also managed to organise outstanding payment of salaries for the months of January and February for Cordaid’s own staff who stayed behind in Malakal and are now relocated to Kodok, and for staff for six medical facilities which are paid by Cordaid through the County Health Department, a total of about 80 recipients on the payroll.

Cordaid is one of the largest development organizations in the Netherlands and has a network of 634 partner organizations in more than thirty countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Cordaid runs 65 projects in South Sudan, ranging from peacebuilding activities to health care. Most projects have had to be halted due to the unrest, and Cordaid has been working to provide emergency aid efforts for refugees. The healthcare programmes however, have continued as usual. Cordaid supports to a number of clinics in this region, based on its internationally acclaimed results-based financing system.
