(March. 13, 2014) 34 people have been killed in inter-communal clashes in Lakes State's Mangony cattle camp, located in Cueibet County.
The fighting between the Waat and Panyar communities started after a girl from the Panyar community allegedly eloped with a man from the Waat community.
The Member of Parliament for Abiriu and Mayath Constituency, Malek Machuot, says the situation was worsened by an argument between two in-laws over the circumstances under which the girl was impregnated.
“The fighting between Waat and Panyar Section of Cueibet County resulted to death of 20 people from Waat and 14 people from Panyar. The cause is to be pregnant girl, the brother of the pregnant girl attacked the man who pregnant his sister with the stick and later on result to the gun fire.”
Members of parliament in Lakes state led by the local government Minister visited the scene of the incident on Wednesday.
