Highlights

 Head of USAID Food for Peace, Dina Esposito, meets with WFP in South Sudan. On 30 May, WFP accompanied the high-level USAID mission on its visit to Bor and Mingkamam, where they saw, amongst other things, a WFP food distribution, milling stations and storage facilities and met with community leaders. The following day, WFP briefed the mission on its operational issues, successes and future plans.

 WFP strives to increase its delivery to Unity. In its efforts to ensure food distributions to conflict-affected internally displaced people and refugees in Unity state, 25 trucks loaded with about 1,800 mt of food are en route there. With Force Protection escorts, they should move from the staging area, Abiemnom, to Bentiu by next week.

 WFP protests looting of its prepositioned stocks in Upper Nile state. On 3 June, WFP sent letters to both the Government of South Sudan and the SPLA/M in opposition protesting the looting in Ulang, Nassir and Mathiang of WFP prepositioned food. In all, about 1,450 mt of food, valued at US$4 million was reported as looted or destroyed. The forces of both parties are thought to have been primarily responsible. WFP has asked both sides to hold humanitarian supplies sacrosanct and to take all possible measures to discipline their respective forces to ensure there is no re-occurrence.
