(13th June, 2013) - The South Sudan Mine Action said mine clearance in Jonglei State has been suspended due to the rains.
The Mine Action Coordinator for Greater Upper Nile, Maj. Zachariah Monyjiek Boguoot, told Radio Miraya on Thursday that the mine clearance will resume after the rainy season.
He added that his institution has handed over cleared land on Wednesday to authorities in Piji County.
The land will be used for grazing cattle, agricultural production, as well as settlement.
Maj. Zachariah acknowledged that much work needed to be done in Piji and beyond.
