(July 17th, 2013) - The Health Ministry has discharged almost half of the patients, most with gunshot wounds, who were evacuated from Manyabol village for medical treatment following the ethnic clashes in Pibor.

A combined response in Bor by state authorities, citizens and international agencies has been supporting the victims of the violence between the Lou-Nuer youth and the Murle in Jonglei State.

The UN children’s agency (UNICEF) said that among the more than 240 evacuees were 65 children, 23 of whom had sustained gunshot injuries.

Child Protection Officer, Angelina Mwau, said many of the children were traumatized after witnessing the violence, and agencies were working to support them.

Meanwhile, Jonglei Women’s Association Chairperson, Elizabeth Nyayok Duer, said 86 people were under medical observation at her organization’s center after being discharged from Bor hospital.
