(7th August, 2013) - Central Equatoria State Ministry of General Education said an estimated 140,000 school age children in the state are not enrolled for school within rural areas.
Addressing state parliamentarians in Juba, the state Education Minister, Scopas Dima Jibi, said chiefs and county authorities should become involved in promoting education.
The acting Chairperson for the specialized committee for Services and Members Affairs, Silvanus ‘Bata Yokuju, also urged the Ministry of Education to ensure children enroll and stay in school.
“The Parliament is trying to make recommendations to enable the Ministry create awareness in terms of enrolment, retention of the pupils in schools,” he said.
"We are trying to make this so that measures are put in place to assist even girls in school so that the environment in schools is made attractive and conducive.”
The State Parliament has already passed the Education Policy Framework to the third reading.
