(September 2, 2013) - The Commissioner of Tonj North County, Warrap State, has appealed for humanitarian assistance after floods displaced people in nine payams of the county to higher ground.

Marko Awich said heavy rain on Monday morning submerged lowland areas in the county, adding to an already high water level.

Mr Marko called for a fresh assessment of the damage in spite of the previous visits by the UN.

“If you come now - if you have a plane - you will even never sit. I can tell you that the whole nine Payams are occupied by floods,” he told Radio Miraya. “We wanted at least organizations or UN to come and make full assessment because they came twice now, but … if there is a possibility they should come and see it today because there is a second rain, heavy rain,” he said.

The United Nations said in a report last week that 65 percent of the roads in the country were impassable by roads.
