(March. 17, 2014) More than 100 orphans have been relocated from the UN base in Malakal, Upper Nile state to Juba.

The 118 orphans and their caretakers were airlifted from Malakal on a World Food program flight and relocated to the SOS children’s village in Juba.

The orphans looked smart, happy and healthy as they boarded the plane.

Guan Ayang, in charge of ten orphans, said she was happy about the relocation of the orphans because the current crisis in Malakal was increasingly difficult to give orphans good care.

UNMISS Child Protection officer in Upper Nile State Moussa Camara, says the relocation of the orphans was made on the request of the SOS village in Juba.

“The SOS office in Juba requested UNMISS and the humanitarian partners including OCHA and WFP to help facilitate the transfer of these children from PoC to Juba, they chattered a WFP flight to come for these children and we UNMISS supported with the transportation of these children from our PoC to the airport.”
