(March. 17, 2014) At least five children from one family are in hospital after an unexploded ordinance, or U-X-O, detonated in their compound in Yei.
The children were digging sweet potatoes in their compound; all are now in Yei Civil Hospital.
Eye witness Easter Senya narrates to radio Miraya how the incident happened.
“I and the mother of the children were at the church. After our young women’s meeting we went home after short while I heard a sound like ??
“… we don’t know exactly immediately my neighbor call me we rush and take the children to the hospital this is what happen to us in Hai Dum.” She further explains
Meanwhile the regional coordinator for greater Equatoria Demining Authority, Joseph Ramba, has warned the population not to touch metal objects but to report any suspicious items to authorities.
“My message to the people or the community in Yei is that if they see anything which they don’t understand, like a metal, they should not touch it.
“If they are suspicious let they inform us then we will send our technical people to check and possible remove it before they do any development activity in that area.” Joseph Ramba stresses
