(March. 17, 2014) UNMISS says government’s plan to tighten security check on their operation will slow down their activities on the civilians who need the services.
Reacting to Government’s plan to tighten security check on UNMISS operation, UNMISS’ spokesperson Arian Quantier says there is need for cooperation between the government and the UN to provide better living conditions for civilians.
“When it comes to searching of our convoy we are very worried because we need to move throughout the country, UN vehicles and convoys are stacked and our operation is virtually stacked.
"We are working extremely hard on increasing all sorts of drainage, to be able to dry the land, reestablishing latrines so that people can enjoy better conditions in the due of the coming rains.” UNMISS’ spokesperson Arian Quantier adds
Arian says the Statutes of Force Agreement they signed with the government, grants UNMISS freedom of movement in the Country to provide services.
She however added that UNMISS is building more civilians protection centers in Juba, Bor, Malakal and Bentiu.
