The Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) has started clearing the compound of Yei Civil Hospital of suspected unexploded ordinance and cluster bombs.
NPA launched the one month operation this week to ensure that the hospital is cleared of all explosives that could have been buried during past wars.
Speaking to Radio Miraya, the supervisor and manual clearance officer for NPA Mine Action in Yei, Kenyatta Godfrey, asked the residents to cooperate with the de-miners and has also advised the patients to stay indoors while the exercise is ongoing.
In 2011 and 2012 the Mine Action team uncovered six UXOs and cluster bombs in the compound of Yei Civil hospital.
